چکیده

We describe a new organization for virtual human responses to dynamically occurring events. In our approach behavioral responses are enumerated in the representation of the event itself. These Smart Events inform an agent of plausible actions to undertake. We additionally introduce the notion of agent priming, which is based on psychological concepts and further restricts and simplifies action choice. Priming facilitates multidimensional agents and in combination with Smart Events results in reasonable, contextual action selection without requiring complex reasoning engines or decision trees. This scheme burdens events with possible behavioral outcomes, reducing agent computation to evaluation of a case expression and (possibly) a probabilistic choice. We demonstrate this approach in a small group scenario of agents reacting to a fire

I-6: Role of Actin Cytoskeleton during Mouse Sperm Acrosomal Exocytosis

Background: Mammalian sperm must undergo a process termed capacitation to become competent to fertilize an egg. Capacitation renders the sperm competent by priming the cells to undergo a rapid exocytotic event called acrosomal exocytosis that is stimulated by the zona pellucida (ZP) of the egg or progesterone. Over the years, several biochemical events have been associated with the capacitation...

Robust Agent Based Distribution System Restoration with Uncertainty in Loads in Smart Grids

This paper presents a comprehensive robust distributed intelligent control for optimum self-healing activities in smart distribution systems considering the uncertainty in loads. The presented agent based framework obviates the requirements for a central control method and improves the reliability of the self-healing mechanism. Agents possess three characteristics including local views, decentr...

Infusing Humor in Unexpected Events

In this paper, we focus on humor facilitators, a type of humorous agents meant to act as mediators between unexpected events occurring in smart environments and the human agents. More specifically, we present a case study in which fictional ideation and narrative dramatization are combined to achieve humor facilitation. We implemented a test bed for the simulation of an interactive environment....

English and Spanish Speakers Remember Causal Agents Differently

Does language play a role in how people interpret and remember causal events? One source of variation in causal event descriptions is agentivity, such as the difference between “She broke the vase” (agentive) vs. “The vase broke” (non-agentive). In this paper, we examined English and Spanish speakers’ descriptions of intentional and accidental events, as well as their memory for the causal agen...
